Well Sony delayed Home again further pushing it back to Fall. Sony stated that it will expand the Closed Beta testing for PLAYSTATION Home this Summer, inviting more PLAYSTATION 3 users to the beta. Following completion of the Expanded Closed Beta test, the PLAYSTATION Home Open Beta service will commence this Fall.

Kaz Hirai, President and Group CEO, of SCEI had this to say:

“We understand that we are asking PS3 and prospective PS3 users to wait a bit longer, but we have come to the conclusion that we need more time to refine the service to ensure a more focused gaming entertainment experience than what it is today. Our overarching objective is to provide users with new gaming experiences that are available only on PLAYSTATION Home. Spending more time on the development and on the Closed Beta testing reaffirms our commitment to bringing a quality service, maintaining the PlayStation tradition.”

The PLAYSTATION Home Open Beta service that will become available in Fall 2008 will be built around providing new and fun community gaming experiences. Sony also noted that Details of the Closed Beta testing features, registration for the test and the opening of the service will be announced as they become available.

I’ll be sure to keep you guys updated

Criterion has been talking about adding a live update board in Burnout Paradise for awhile, and they have one to unviel now. Here is a pre-release shot, which has much of the information you’ll see as part of the Cagney update at the end of June. Criterion stated that “The game will automatically launch this page, when you start the game, but you’ll also be able to access it anytime during the game.”

The News page includes various little widgets like a Calendar, Weather and a Clock. The game calendar lets us call out special events on particular days. Criterion also said they wanted to minimise any delays getting us new game content. They can now do this with server-side changes. They also said “If we want to bring you a special boost free racing day, test a prototype car for a few hours or reward our best forum posters with something special…it’s no problem!” The calendar is where they can do that.

Check it out. This one looks pretty cool.

For the last couple of months (January and February) the PS3 has won in terms of hardware sales for those months. March on the other hand took a drop but not that dirastic, selling only 5,000 less than its rival Xbox 360. Granted, it was a defeat though. In Sony’s latest press release we are reminded that this year is only going to get better with the releases of heavy hitters like Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet and many more, which is why 2008 has been named “Year of the PS3″.
